Should we really be trying to live forever?
Hey team,
Welcome to May!
For my readers based in England, I can’t believe how lucky we’ve been with this weather. As mentioned in last months newsletter, it’s great for natural Vitamin D and general mood.
But, sunny weather can also be distracting from our goals.
We don’t want to spend time indoors in the gym and a pint is always more tempting when the sun is shining.
Remember life is all about balance but try to replace old habits with new ones. For instance, rather than going to the gym, go for a run outdoors and instead of that pint, consider having a zero-alcohol beer from time to time.
But of course, enjoy yourself.
This is 3 Easy Ways, my monthly newsletter where I share simple and actionable tips to get you moving, maximise your output and improve your overall week.
What’s in store today:
What’s the price you’re willing to pay for success?
A reflection on Bryan Johnson and his ‘religion’ called ‘Don’t Die’
My top three tips for HYROX
1. The Pyrrhic Victory 🏆
Something a lot of people don’t know about me is that I studied History at university.
Honestly, I love history because of the lessons it teaches us.
One theory that stuck with me from those days is the Pyrrhic Victory.
It’s when you technically win but the cost is so high it feels like a loss.
The term comes from King Pyrrhus who defeated the Romans in battle, but lost so many troops that he was forced to retreat.
✅ Victory on paper
❌ Defeat in reality
Now, I’m not just talking about this because of my love for History…
But because it’s something I see in new clients (and high-performers in general) a lot.
They have the job title, the salary, the status and the success.
Yet they aren’t happy because that success has cost them.
Less time spent with family
Constant stress and poor sleep
Barely seeing their kids grow up
Deteriorating physical health
Never satisfied
Think about your future self, which is one of the main reasons I left my corporate accountancy job to pursuit something I loved.
You can chase success at all costs or build a life where success doesn’t come with total sacrifice.
For me, my health, energy and being present are important.
Don’t make those things optional, make them foundational.
You can work hard, be successful and live a life you’re proud of.

2. Should we really be trying to live forever?

Bryan Johnson thinks so but I have to disagree.
The millionaire biohacker behind Project Blueprint just launched an AI-powered religion that preaches longevity as the path to salvation.
Now, don’t get me wrong…I admire the guy’s discipline.
He tracks everything, sleeps like a monk, his nutrition is exceptional, he’s removed toxins from his life and he exercises consistently. All of this he does, to age as slowly as possible and it’s working.
But here’s what he isn’t thinking about:
It’s not just about longevity, it’s about quality of life too. It’s about living better for as long as you can.
The goal isn't to hit 150 years old with a weak grip and no libido. It’s to live strong, with purpose, and joyfully into your 80s, 90s, maybe more.
Life is finite and that’s what makes it so special.
So should you take inspiration from Bryan Johnson?
Absolutely. But take it with a pinch of salt.
Firstly, we aren’t all millionaires so we don’t have the same time and money Bryan does to spend on this.
Secondly, you don’t need to turn yourself into a lab experiment to improve your health.
You just need to take your health and fitness seriously — before something breaks.
Start small:
Lift weights
Prioritise sleep
Walk every day
Book that pre-emptive scan you've been avoiding
It’s not about immortality. It’s about responsibility.
If you need help, you know where I am.
3. HYROX: The importance of a good program
As I ramp up training for HYROX Cardiff Doubles, I’ve had to become even more focused with my training and my schedule.
Running multiple businesses, coaching clients and still finding time to train is hard.
It’s reminded me how essential it is to train smart and have a proper program in place — especially when time is tight.
So here are 3 key tips I’ve been using (and giving to clients) to help perform better without wasting time:
1️⃣ Run tired.
Most people run and strength train separately, but in HYROX you’re running fatigued.
In the event you’ll be running after lunges, sled pushes and burpees so replicate that:
Run 0.5-1km intervals after heavy lower body strength work or run 5km after a leg day. In these sessions try to increase your pace and reduce recovery.
This will replicate the actual event and will teach your body to push through when it’s already exhausted. This will especially help when you get to the final few stations and try to run at the same pace.
2️⃣ Focus on 2–3 weaknesses.
HYROX training should be supplementary to normal strength and running so therefore, you won’t realistically be able to work on all 8 stations and run effectively over a 8-12 program.
Trying to train everything all the time, won’t work.
Instead, pick 2-3 areas which you particularly struggle with and try to get better at those over a 8-12 week period — then rotate.
This will be a much better use of time.
3️⃣ Stick to a plan.
Know your strengths, know your pace and know where things could fall apart.
Build your plan around that, practice it and implement it on race day.
Yes, you’re most likely to go faster on the day (especially at the beginning) when adrenaline is high. But having a clear structure means you can recover and settle into a strong finish.
When training for HYROX train hard but with purpose.
